Income Tax Calculator (India)
Compare old and new regimes for FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 using the same annual income. This India-only estimate assumes a resident individual, ordinary slab-rate income and the under-60 old-regime slabs. It is not a calculator for another country or tax year.
Run the same inputs under each regime to see how the supplied old-regime deductions affect this simplified comparison. The result is annual tax before credit for tax already paid.
Scope: FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 only. This simplified model assumes a resident individual eligible for Section 87A, ordinary slab-rate income, and under-60 old-regime slabs. It does not handle nonresident rebate exclusions, senior-citizen old-regime exemptions, special-rate capital gains or other special-rate income, mixed-income classification, family-pension deductions, surcharge or high-income marginal relief. New-regime relief just above the rebate threshold is modeled separately from surcharge relief. It is an annual tax estimate before TDS/advance-tax credits, not the final amount due on a return.
Estimate only — not tax advice. Income tax depends on your jurisdiction's brackets, deductions and rules, which change by year and by individual situation. Verify with a qualified tax professional before relying on this.
About this calculator
Use this entry page for a controlled regime comparison: keep the annual income and income type fixed, first select the new regime, then select the old regime and enter the eligible deductions you intend to model. The calculation does not choose a regime or establish that every claimed deduction is allowed. It also does not determine whether a taxpayer may switch regimes in a particular filing situation.
For example, at ₹7,00,000 salary with no other deductions, the old-regime calculation subtracts ₹50,000, giving ₹6,50,000 taxable income and ₹44,200 tax including cess. With an illustrative ₹1,50,000 of separately eligible old-regime deductions, taxable income becomes ₹5,00,000 and the modeled resident-individual rebate reduces ordinary slab tax to zero. The new-regime salary calculation subtracts ₹75,000; its ₹6,25,000 taxable income is below the modeled new-regime rebate threshold, so that result is also zero.
The companion Income Tax Calculator India uses the same calculation engine and adds an income-type walkthrough. Both routes are retained and self-canonical; there is no separate tax rule or different authority behind the second entry. A comparison should therefore reproduce the same result for identical inputs on either page.

Worked example
Comparison example, FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27: choose Salary / eligible pension and enter ₹7,00,000. With old regime and deductions 0, the base slab tax is ₹42,500 and cess is ₹1,700, giving ₹44,200. Change only eligible old-regime deductions to ₹1,50,000: taxable income becomes ₹5,00,000 and the modeled rebate gives zero tax. Choose new regime: the old-regime deduction field is ignored, the salary standard deduction is ₹75,000 and the modeled tax is zero. This example assumes a resident individual under 60 with ordinary slab-rate income and no special-rate income.
FAQ
Which regime should I pick in this income tax calculator?
Enter your income under both the new and old regimes to compare. The new regime has lower rates but fewer deductions; the old regime can win if you claim large deductions such as 80C, HRA, and home-loan interest.
Does the Income Tax Calculator send my data to a server?
No. The Income Tax Calculator runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript; the values you enter never leave your device and nothing is uploaded or saved.
Does it include the Section 87A rebate?
The model applies the resident-individual rebate to ordinary slab-rate income: taxable income up to ₹12,00,000 under the new regime or ₹5,00,000 under the old regime. It does not model special-rate income or nonresident cases. The simplified new-regime threshold relief is applied just above ₹12,00,000; 4% cess is added to any tax remaining.
Why does my figure differ from a payslip TDS estimate?
Payroll TDS spreads tax across the year and may use declared investments and perks. This is an annual estimate on the figures you enter and does not model surcharge on very high incomes.
