Income Tax Calculator India

Check how salary and non-salary income are treated in this simplified India FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 estimate. Salary standard deductions apply only to the salary/eligible-pension option. This model assumes resident-individual rebate eligibility and uses under-60 old-regime slabs.

Choose the income type before entering the amount. For business income, supply the relevant income amount after determining business income under the applicable rules; turnover or gross customer receipts are not automatically taxable profit.

How this estimate works — FY 2025-26 / AY 2026-27. Choose your income type first. The salary standard deduction (₹75,000 new regime / ₹50,000 old regime) is applied only to Salary / eligible pension; for Freelance / business / other income it is not applied. This simplified estimate includes the 4% health & education cess and, in the new-regime estimate, the simplified rebate-threshold marginal relief applied to taxable income just above the ₹12,00,000 rebate threshold, but does not calculate surcharge or other high-income marginal-relief cases. Verify against the current Finance Act.

Scope: FY 2025–26 / AY 2026–27 only. This simplified model assumes a resident individual eligible for Section 87A, ordinary slab-rate income, and under-60 old-regime slabs. It does not handle nonresident rebate exclusions, senior-citizen old-regime exemptions, special-rate capital gains or other special-rate income, mixed-income classification, family-pension deductions, surcharge or high-income marginal relief. New-regime relief just above the rebate threshold is modeled separately from surcharge relief. It is an annual tax estimate before TDS/advance-tax credits, not the final amount due on a return.

Enter your values and tap Calculate.

Estimate only — not tax advice. Income-tax slabs, the regime you choose, deductions, surcharge and cess change by year and by individual situation. Verify with the Income Tax Department or a qualified professional before relying on these results.

About this calculator

Use this entry page to inspect the income-type assumption before estimating tax. The salary/eligible-pension option subtracts the built-in salary standard deduction. The freelance/business/other option does not. Family pension has different deduction treatment and should not be treated as salary pension merely because its name contains the word pension. The single amount field cannot classify mixed income or compute business profit from turnover and expenses.

Hold income at ₹7,00,000, old regime and other deductions at zero. Salary mode subtracts ₹50,000, producing ₹6,50,000 taxable income, base tax ₹42,500 and total ₹44,200 including 4% cess. Business mode applies no salary standard deduction, so taxable income remains ₹7,00,000: base tax is ₹12,500 + 20% × ₹2,00,000 = ₹52,500, and total including cess is ₹54,600. The ₹10,400 difference is entirely the modeled deduction and its tax effect; it is not a special business tax rate.

This page shares the same engine as the Income Tax Calculator comparison entry. Identical inputs should give identical figures. The different walkthrough explains preparation of the income-type input; it does not add a separate computation, a filing service or access to the Income Tax Department account.

Salary / eligible pension gives taxable income ₹6,50,000 and total tax ₹44,200 including cess. FAQ

Which financial year and regimes are used?

The tool uses FY 2025-26 / AY 2026-27 slabs. For salary or eligible pension income, it applies a ₹75,000 standard deduction under the new regime or ₹50,000 under the old regime. It does not apply that standard deduction to freelance, business or other income. Eligible deductions you enter are used only under the old regime.

Does the income tax calculator india send my income to a server?

No. The income tax calculator india computes everything in your browser; your income and deductions are never uploaded.

When does the 87A rebate make tax zero?

The model applies the resident-individual rebate to ordinary slab-rate income: taxable income up to ₹12,00,000 under the new regime or ₹5,00,000 under the old regime. It does not model special-rate income or nonresident cases. The simplified new-regime threshold relief is applied just above ₹12,00,000; 4% cess is added to any tax remaining.

Why does the old regime sometimes pay less?

If your deductions (80C, 80D, home-loan interest, HRA) are large, subtracting them under the old regime can beat the new regime's lower rates.
