Technical notes
XIRR Calculator computes the annualised internal rate of return for cash flows on irregular dates, by date-weighted iteration.
Uses the dated cash flows you enter to compute an annualised return; it doesn't predict future performance.
The tool works offline once loaded, since every computation is client-side.
Worked example
XIRR finds the annualised return when cash flows land on irregular dates — e.g. investing 100,000 and withdrawing 130,000 exactly 18 months later gives roughly 19.1% XIRR.
FAQ
How are the irregular dates annualised?
Each cashflow is discounted by the exact number of days from the first date using an actual/365 day count, and the rate that makes the net present value zero is the XIRR.
Does the XIRR Calculator send my data to a server?
No. The XIRR Calculator runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript; the values you enter never leave your device and nothing is uploaded or saved.
What date format should I use?
Enter dates as YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2024-03-15, with the amount after a comma on the same line.
How is XIRR different from IRR?
IRR assumes cashflows occur at equal, regular periods, while XIRR uses the actual calendar dates, making it correct for lump sums invested at uneven intervals.
