Worked example
A 4 m × 3 m deck is 12 m². With 140 mm boards plus 5 mm gaps (~6.9 boards/m width), you'd order boards for ~12 m² plus ~10% waste.

How are deck boards estimated?
Rows come from the board width plus gap, multiplied by the deck length, then divided by the board length with waste added.
Does the Deck Calculator upload my deck size?
No. The Deck Calculator runs in your browser and the figures you enter are never sent out.
Does it include framing and blocking?
No. It counts surface boards and joists only; posts, beams, and blocking are not included.
How is the joist count worked out?
Joists are spaced across the length at the spacing you set, then one is added for the closing joist.
