Speed Distance Time Calculator

Speed Distance Time: it uses speed = distance ÷ time, and rearranges the same relation to solve for distance or time. Worked through below with real figures, and the calculator repeats the working on your own inputs — free, on-device, instant.

Speed Distance Time Calculator is a browser-based way to work out speed, distance or time. Feed it the two values you know and it computes the missing value with its unit on the spot, keeping your data local.

Enter your values and tap Calculate.

About this calculator

Use average speed = total distance ÷ elapsed time, distance = constant speed × time, or time = distance ÷ a positive speed. Enter distance in kilometres, time in decimal hours and speed in km/h. The selected calculation uses two fields. A 150 km trip over 2.5 hours has average speed 60 km/h; it does not imply the speed stayed constant at every instant.

How to use

  1. Choose what to solve for: speed, distance, or time.
  2. Enter the two values you know.
  3. Press Calculate to solve for the chosen quantity.
  4. Read the solved quantity and its unit. Convert a decimal-hour answer to minutes by multiplying by 60 if needed.

Technical notes

Outputs use km/h, km or hours to match the labeled fields. Distance and speed must be nonnegative. Time may be zero when calculating distance, but must be positive when dividing to find speed; speed must be positive when dividing to find time. Zero distance over positive time is zero average speed. The form rejects nonfinite results and arithmetic underflow, and shows very small nonzero results in scientific notation. It does not model acceleration, traffic, a route or a timetable.

Results assume ideal conditions and consistent units, so convert your inputs to the units shown before calculating.

The tool works offline once loaded, since every computation is client-side.

FAQ

How are speed, distance, and time related?

Speed = distance ÷ time, distance = speed × time, and time = distance ÷ speed.

Which fields should I fill in?

Fill in the two quantities you know for the option you selected; the third is calculated.

Which units do speed, distance, and time use?

Use kilometres for distance, decimal hours for time and km/h for speed. Convert other units before entry. For example, 45 minutes is 0.75 hours, not 0.45 hours.

Does the Speed Distance Time Calculator send my data to a server?

No. The Speed Distance Time Calculator runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or shared.

Worked example

Covering 150 km in 2.5 hours gives a speed of 150 ÷ 2.5 = 60 km/h.
