Technical notes

Markup Calculator computes markup = (price − cost) ÷ cost × 100, and the resulting selling price.

Figures use the costs, prices and rates you enter and exclude taxes and one-off charges unless a field asks for them.

Results are rounded for display; the underlying calculation keeps full precision.

Worked example

A product costing 200 sold at 260: markup = (260 − 200) ÷ 200 × 100 = 30%.

FAQ

How does this markup calculator compute markup?

Markup is the profit (selling price minus cost) divided by the cost, shown as a percentage, so a cost of 100 sold at 150 is a 50 percent markup.

Does the Markup Calculator send my data to a server?

No. The Markup Calculator runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript; the values you enter never leave your device and nothing is uploaded or saved.

Why does it also show margin?

Markup and margin describe the same profit from different bases. Showing both helps you convert between the figure you set and the share of revenue you keep.

Can markup exceed 100 percent?

Yes. If the selling price is more than double the cost, the markup is above 100 percent, which is common for low-cost goods.
